The snowdrops are up and the daffodils are not far behind and spring, as they say, has sprung.
The snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) is the first flower of spring, a reminder that winter is coming to an end and a symbol of hope after dark days and inclement weather.

Although a native of Europe, the snowdrop is not a native of Ireland and was probably not introduced until as late as the 16th Century, the first mention of them being in Gerard's Herbal in 1597.
Herbalists don't use the snowdrop nowadays, in fact little is known of any traditional use. You can find more information here:
