In this video renowned herbalist David Winston introduces the concept of energetics as used in many traditional cultures. The taste of a herb, or a food, has a therapeutic effect. For example the taste of bitter herbs such as Berberis vulgaris or Artemisia absinthium has a stimulating effect on the gall bladder and increases the production of bile, resulting in increased digestion of fatty substances. Bile also assists in the excretion of bilirubin and has an anti-bacterial action.
