PLEASE PROTEST AGAINST THIS NEW LEGISLATION ~
The European Parliament VOTES on 21st April to BAN nutritional information

There has been little information in the National press relating to the European Union's determination to control information on labels, on packaging and in any advertising relating to health benefits.  However, this really is a major issue, particularly to consumers, and Members of the European Parliament are expected to vote on this legislation on 21st April.

Please click the following link sign the PETITION in protest.  www.sup.nl/petition

If the new legislation is approved it will mean that the manufacturers of food supplements will not be legally allowed to inform you of the benefits of their product on the label or by way of responsible advertising.  Without such information, how are we all to know which products will best suit us and are right for our particular needs?  How are we to make informed choices?

Under the Nutrition & Health Claims Regulation, manufacturers must apply to the EU for approval for any claim they wish to make – and a list of approved claims is being compiled by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The problem is that the evidence required by EFSA to substantiate the claim is impossible because it needs to be based on the same scientific trials used for drugs – completely inappropriate for foods.
As a result, more than 80% of claims applications have been rejected which means that tens of thousands of well known, safe and effective products would either be offered without any information – or would be removed from the market.
So please help to put a stop to this nonsense.

The Food Supplements Directive ~an update:

Britain is almost alone ~ but our continuing efforts to get out messages across to MEPs seems to be working.  Our plans to stage an event within the European Parliament in the coming months is making good progress; this is the best way of reaching not just British MEPs but those from other Member States too.   We are still the only consumer organisation fighting against the proposals and we remain determined to make sure that those MEPs who will actually vote on this legislation understand that the 'one size fits all' approach to health is unworkable; that supplements are safe and effective and have been used for decades in the UK and across Europe.

As before, here are a few suggestions as to how you and others can continue to help.
  1. Have your family and your friends signed our Petition?  Please encourage them to add their names if not.  www.consumersforhealthchoice.com/phpPETITION/
  2. Can you join those already generous consumers by making a donation to keep the campaign going and help with the Brussels event please?  Any amount you can manage will help make a difference.  Thank you.  The on-line donation system is quick, simple and safe.  www.consumersforhealthchoice.com/donate.htm
  3. Finally, please forward this note to your own E-contacts, both in the UK and Europe, asking them to please sign both Petitions and take action as we have suggested.  If possible, please encourage them to write to their own MEPs too.
Thank you again so very much for anything you can give and for everything you are doing. Things really are at a critical stage and I know you understand how very important this is.
