I often recommend juicing because it is a tasty and simple way of getting vital nutrition into the body. Breaking fruits and vegetables down into very small parts by liquefying them in a blender allows our body's digestive juices to get at a wider surface area that wouldn't be available with eating whole fruits and vegetables. Thus nutrients are absorbed more efficiently.
Recipe One: Fruit Smoothie
1 banana (green) - you can use ripe bananas but green ones have less sugar
1/2 punnet blueberries- available at supermarkets and easy to grow at home
2 tablespoons of flax seed
1/3 cup of rice milk
Method:
Use a coffee bean grinder to grind the flax seeds into a powder - add to rice milk and pour into blender - break up banana into smaller pieces and ad blueberries - blend and drink immediately.
The ground seeds as well as providing essential fatty acids and protein will also give this smoothie a very silky texture. Other milks can be used in place of rice milk or no milk at all.
You can add different fruits in season and experiment but this makes a great start to the day, is highly nutritious and kids will love it too!
Recipe 2: Vegetable Juice
4 sticks of celery
2 small apples
1 chunk of fresh root ginger
1 small carrot (optional)
Method:
Cut apples into quarters. Chop a chunk of fresh ginger about the size of your thumb into small pieces. Add all ingredients and blend. Drink at once. THis is a great base for adding other vegetables too and extremely nutritious. the ginger gives it a nice little kick.
It's best practice to rinse out your blender/juicer/processor with cold water straight after use as it makes it easier to clean.
Enjoy!
